When life coach and best-selling author Thomas Carter (Mackie) gets a request for a one-to-one session from a fan (Whitaker) whose years of dark thoughts have plagued him over his mother's untimely death, Thomas seizes the opportunity to get into the mind of a troubled man and takes the job.
