The owner of a five-star hotel, Mrs Dubrow (Faye Dunaway), has discovered that a prestigious hotel guide-book is about to anonymously assess her hotel for its six-star rate. The hotel's manager had promised his two sons that they would go on a belated family holiday but is ordered by his boss to forget those plans and concentrate on making sure everything is perfect for the inspectors. Meanwhile Lord Rutledge (Rupert Everett), a jewel thief who uses an Orangutan called Dunston as his accomplice, has just checked in. When Dunston manages to get lost in the hotel and is befriended by the manager's ten-year-old son, Kyle, mayhem and chaos ensue.
