The film follows Billy Bloom (Lawther), an openly gay teenager who faces constant hardship at his conservative high school due to his eccentric nature. With his mother Muv (Bette Midler) entering rehab, Billy is sent to stay with his wealthy father who also struggles to come to terms with his son's lifestyle.
